Guest Lecture at The University of Greenwich: How Social Media is Changing The PR Landscape
I had the honour of being a guest lecturer at the University of Greenwich where I gave a lecture presentation on how social media has changed the PR landscape and the relationship between PR and advertising because of these changes. The students were engaged and enthusiastic about the crossover between traditional PR and new media and how the digital landscape has driven change.
As a PR expert and personal branding specialist, I was excited to share my insights with students eager to understand how digital platforms are reshaping public relations.
During the lecture, I explored how social media has revolutionized PR strategies, shifting from traditional media reliance to a dynamic, real-time engagement model. I discussed how brands, businesses, and public figures can leverage social media for reputation management, crisis communication, and audience engagement. The rise of influencer marketing, viral content, and direct consumer interaction has made social media a critical tool for PR success.
One key takeaway from my talk was the importance of authenticity and transparency in digital PR. Today, audiences demand genuine connections, and businesses that fail to adapt to this expectation risk losing credibility. I also highlighted the growing role of data-driven PR, where analytics and insights shape storytelling and engagement strategies.
The students asked insightful questions about navigating PR challenges in the digital age, including managing online crises and handling negative press. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm for the evolving PR landscape and their eagerness to embrace social media as a powerful communication tool.
This lecture reinforced my passion for mentoring future PR professionals and sharing strategies to help businesses and individuals build strong, credible brands online. If you're interested in learning more about how social media is shaping PR, let's connect!
