Good Girls Don’t Get The Corner Office

“Have decorum. Dress nicely. Be kind. Be nice. I'm telling you, you will go nowhere. Be a bad girl like me and you will get somewhere." The Rt Hon. Millie Odhiambo Mabona Member of the National Assembly of Kenya This clip stopped me in my tracks not simply because of MP Millie's line delivery but because of the truth bombs she's sharing.

This is something that has come up as a topic of conversation in my personal branding sessions often - how people's perception of niceness and being good actually leads to more barriers; this is particularly true for women. Now of course you don't have to be mean or unkind to get ahead but being nice doesn't necessarily empower you particularly in environments where your "niceness" is seen as a weakness or used to undermine, infantilise and belittle you.

Be kind by all means but be bolder aka badder to get the things you want.

Remember being bad here does not mean being unscrupulous or mistreating others it means being daring, outspoken and willing to take risks. What are your thoughts?
