Let's Talk Communications

I had the chance to have an insightful conversation and interview with Nana Darkoa, Founder of Makeda on the Let's Talk Communications instagram live recently. We discussed the PR and communications sector and my business journey to this point. What was particularly good about this conversation was that we are both Black women in the PR and communications landscape within different parts of the sector but what binds us aside from friendship is that we are also feminists. Being a Black woman in any professional space brings with it the challenges of external perceptions of womanhood. Nana is based in Ghana and I am based in the UK but the challenges we have faced resonate. But beyond the challenges our passion for being intentional about Black women's position in a sector like PR and communications and across business is one of the key driving forces behind the work that we do. It was refreshing to have a conversation with Nana on what communications means to me and also what advice I'd give to entrepreneurs. One of my key messages to anyone starting a business based on one of my main lessons is that passion isn't enough and that all entrepreneurs particularly women have to focus on their profit. Talking about money for women in business and professional spaces is essential for growth. Here's the full video of the interview (don't mind my moment of authenticity as I searched for light and sound)
